Lyseth Family News --November 1, 2024

Dear Lyseth Families,

It was delightful to see so many of our wonderful Lyseth families at conferences.

Lyseth Covers the Election!

This week, our elementary students had the wonderful opportunity to learn about elections from retired teacher and local superstar, Sheila Hayward. Through her engaging lessons, students from Pre-K to 5th grade explored how elections work and why they matter. Sheila's passion for civic education shone through, leaving students eager to dive into the democratic process.

Next week, we're thrilled to host a Mock Election on October 29th, where our young voters will experience what it's like to participate in an election. Students in 2nd-5th grades will cast their ballots, while our younger Pre-K to 1st-grade students will join in by selecting their favorite flag design. Everyone will get an "I voted" sticker, making the day even more memorable!

As a school community, we are excited to foster a love for learning about democracy and civic engagement. We believe in creating a sense of belonging for ALL members of our community, and we strongly uphold the values of free speech and active participation for everyone.

What Is mClass?

All students K-5 at Lyseth have taken the mClass/DIBELS 8 assessment this year. mClass is a universal screening, dyslexia screening, and progress monitoring tool aligned to DIBELS® 8. mClass/DIBELS helps us measure and strengthen the foundational skills that all students need to become confident readers.

A student’s scores on the mClass/DIBELS measures give the school information about whether or not a student is on track for grade-level reading success. This helps us quickly identify students who do not meet the goals on each mClass/DIBELS measure and provide extra help. For example, if your child is reading words accurately, but slowly, the teacher can provide extra practice re-reading stories and passages to improve his or her reading rate or fluency. Teachers and school staff can review scores on mClass/DIBELS measures for all the students to make sure that every child in the school, including your child, is on track to become an accurate and fluent reader.
