Dear Lyseth Families,
We hope you're all having a wonderful October! Here’s a peek at the exciting events and activities happening at our school.
How to Support Students with Use of Technology-October 22 Parent University
It can be daunting to set boundaries for phone and computer usage at home. On October 22nd from 6-7:30 at King Middle School, Dr. Erica Marcus will lead a session aimed at giving families the support that they need to help their children create more positive habits around screen time, and to help them understand the destructive impacts that screen overuse can have on their mental health and academic achievement. How Lyseth Handles Holidays: Halloween
As Halloween approaches, we wanted to take a moment to address our school’s stance on this holiday and provide some context behind our decision not to celebrate Halloween during school hours. At Lyseth, we pride ourselves on being a diverse and inclusive community where every student and family feels respected, valued, and safe.
While Halloween is a popular tradition for many, we also recognize that it is not celebrated by everyone. Some families may not observe the holiday for personal, cultural, or religious reasons, and we want to ensure that our school remains a welcoming environment for all. We also believe that our primary focus should remain on learning and growth, and as such, we strive to maintain a classroom environment that is focused on education.
This decision was made thoughtfully with input from staff, families, and community members. It aligns with our commitment to fostering an inclusive atmosphere where every student feels they belong. We want to ensure that no student feels left out or uncomfortable, and that school continues to be a space where all students can thrive.
While we won’t be celebrating Halloween during the school day, we encourage students and families who wish to participate in Halloween festivities, outside of school. We will, of course, continue to celebrate the many other school-wide events and activities that bring our community together throughout the year.
LYSETH PTA PRESENTS TRUNK OR TREAT
The Lyseth PTA would like to invite you to Trunk or Treat! Join us Tuesday, October 29th from 6:00-7:00 PM for a boo-tiful night! This is a festive fall activity sponsored by the PTA. Please note, that we do not do Halloween celebrations at or during school hours. This fall event will occur outside of school hours, and this is an optional opportunity for students to gather together for a fun and safe evening.
We are also looking for Lyseth Families to help with candy donations and decorated trunks. For more information visit the link https://volunteersignup.o...
Parent-Teacher Conferences – Sign Ups Complete
Please be sure to remember when your parent-teacher conference is next week. We are looking forward to seeing our amazing Lyseth families. Please note that school will dismiss at 12:30 on Thursday, October 24th and Friday, October 25th.
Equity Conversation at Lyseth
The PTA Equity Team is hosting our first family circle conversation on Monday 10/21 at 2:30 at Lyseth. We will be coming together in conversation about Global Diversity month. We will talk about the ways that we celebrate the amazing diversity within the Lyseth community with our students at home and at school. This, and future month family circle conversations will provide an opportunity to meet other Lyseth families and connect around the work that the school and PTA are doing to promote equity and ensure all feel celebrated within the Lyseth community. This circle will use the same format that our students use in their morning meeting and restorative circles. We look forward to meeting you!
What Is mClass?
All students K-5 at Lyseth have taken the mClass/DIBELS 8 assessment this year. mClass is a universal screening, dyslexia screening, and progress monitoring tool aligned to DIBELS® 8. mClass/DIBELS helps us measure and strengthen the foundational skills that all students need to become confident readers.
A student’s scores on the mClass/DIBELS measures give the school information about whether or not a student is on track for grade-level reading success. This helps us quickly identify students who do not meet the goals on each mClass/DIBELS measure and provide extra help. For example, if your child is reading words accurately, but slowly, the teacher can provide extra practice re-reading stories and passages to improve his or her reading rate or fluency. Teachers and school staff can review scores on mClass/DIBELS measures for all the students to make sure that every child in the school, including your child, is on track to become an accurate and fluent reader.
