Lyseth World Cup

Before vacation, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Lyseth School proudly competed in the annual Lyseth World Cup! This exciting event was the culmination of a gym unit focused on soccer skills and, most importantly, sportsmanship. Students demonstrated teamwork, perseverance, and respectful play throughout the tournament. Our K–2 students and many parents came out to cheer on the players, creating an energetic and supportive atmosphere. It was a wonderful team-building experience and a celebration of both skill development and positive citizenship.

Third Graders Explore Financial Decisions in their Literacy Unit

Third graders have been analyzing how characters in literature—and in real life—plan and make decisions about spending money. In this unit, students are learning about banks and debit cards, the difference between needs and wants, and the roles of goods and services in our economy. They are exploring these concepts through both nonfiction and fiction texts, including Tía Isa Wants a Car, One Hen: How One Small Loan Made a Big Difference, and Shanti Saves Her Money. Through discussion and reading, students are building their understanding of financial responsibility and thoughtful decision-making.

Fifth Graders Visit Gulf of Maine Research Institute. 

Our 5th graders recently took an exciting field trip to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute on Commercial Street in Portland! Students enjoyed traveling together by coach bus, which added to the adventure. While at the Institute, they participated in hands-on learning about tide patterns, changing sea temperatures, and local fishing habitats in the Gulf of Maine. One of the highlights of the day was getting to observe, hold, and carefully measure a rare blue lobster! It was a memorable experience that brought their science studies to life and deepened their understanding of Maine’s unique marine ecosystem.

🖤 Honoring Black History Month at Lyseth

Throughout Black History Month, Lyseth Elementary took time to reflect on and celebrate the important contributions of Black Americans. Each morning, our daily announcements began by highlighting an influential African American and their impact on history, culture, science, or the arts. In classrooms, students explored a wide range of contributions through discussions, lessons, and activities designed to build understanding, respect, and appreciation. These moments of learning help our students recognize the lasting influence of Black Americans and the importance of celebrating diverse voices in our school community.

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps qualified homeowners and renters pay for heating costs. Benefits include assistance with fuel costs and emergency fuel delivery. You can also qualify for energy-related repairs and utility payments if you are eligible for HEAP.
