From Ms. Goodall and Ms. Edlund:
Dear Lyseth families, we are all so excited to watch the eclipse with your students next week. The solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th will begin at 2:15 and peak at 3:28 p.m. This is an exciting scientific phenomenon and we hope all students have the opportunity to experience it - and celebrate it! We are inviting students to also wear red or green to see how the colors change in the eclipse!
-
Around 3:00, all students and staff will be going outside (weather permitting) to look at the eclipse. We have enough glasses for all students and staff and enough for parents/guardians to join (Please note, we cannot accommodate younger siblings at this event).
Please note, if you are going to pick your students up early on Monday, please pick them up before 2:00 pm.
Literacy Around Lyseth
All across Lyseth, our students are reading up a storm. Students in K-2 continue working in CKLA where they are learning to decode, learning rich vocabulary, and reading engaging stories. Mrs. Joyce's students are also learning about figures of speech, and are working on writing summaries.
In first grade, students are beginning a literacy unit: Tools and W ork. In this unit first graders explore different tools and their purposes. They then use their learning about tools and work, and create a "magnificent thing." They are using the text, "The Most Magnificent Thing" by Ashley Spires to guide their learning.
Fifth graders are engaged in a multidisciplinary unit about building bridges. Students read Building the Golden Gate Bridge by Blake Hoena, an interactive book told from two perspectives: a civil engineer and a laborer. Students analyze these two points of view and their different accounts of safety, opportunity, skills, and money.

Lyseth Celebrates Respect Day:
This month at Lyseth, we focused on our core value: Respect. To shine the spotlight on ways we can respect our school. each younger classroom buddied up with an older classroom, and went out to help clean up Lyseth school. Older students helped younger students gather pinecones, pick up litters, and do a bit of weeding. It was a great way to put our core values into action!
