 PTA Officers 2007-2008
Newsletter - December, 2007
PTA and its parent
volunteers provide a tremendous benefit to the Lyseth Community. Much
of the programming we support and other financial resources we provide
would not be possible without the PTA and the generosity of Lyseth families.
One of the PTA's
most important functions is to build community spirit. For our children,
the Elementary School experience is more than just learning -- it is
their community. The PTA offers a variety of events to help develop
and sustain relationships within the Lyseth Community. The parent volunteers
of the PTA plan, organize, staff and help to fund a variety of Family
Fun events over the course of the year, including the Welcome Back Picnic,
Fall Fest, Talent Show,
Ice
Cream Social & Silent Auction and Roller Skating.
Our fundraising
efforts support these community events as well as directly benefit your
kids by purchasing things like recess equipment and classroom supplies
for each grade and improving the playground with enhancements like the
“Stonehenge” and the jumping stumps. This year we are also
working on creating an amphitheater for outdoor classes and performances.
In addition, this past year the PTA purchased for the school a much
needed piano for the music program, 4 computers, the school sign, and
two wireless microphones just to name a few.
The PTA not only
supports extra curricular community building activities, but it also
plays a critical role in enhancing our children’s academic experience
at Lyseth. The PTA sponsors Lyseth’s Enrichment Program, which
provides our children with invaluable cultural experiences such as the
annual author visit, in-school performances, and field trips to the
symphony or theater.
All of this great
stuff is possible only through the efforts of our many PTA volunteers.
Participating in the PTA is rewarding, fun, a great way to meet other
parents, and an essential part of ensuring our children’s success.

Volunteer Program
Lyseth Elementary School provides many opportunities for parents to
become involved with their child’s education. Research has proven that
parental involvement in schools is key to a child’s academic success.
It shows children that education is valued by the parent and also helps
to boost self-esteem. We feel that it is important for parents to be
involved, to know what is going on at school, and to offer whatever
support they feel they are able to.
Volunteering at
Lyseth can fit your schedule, can be in an area of interest to you,
and can be mutually beneficial for both you and your child. In the fall
of each year, a volunteer sign-up sheet is sent home for parents to
fill out. It includes the opportunity to sign up for whatever it is
you are interested in doing. We try to match up teachers' needs with
parent volunteers. The Partnership Developer is available to address
your needs and concerns. Please feel free to call or stop by the office
at any time.
Lyseth Elementary School is very interested in developing more business
and community partnerships. Historically, some local businesses have
provided donations, discounts, and educational opportunities for our
students. If you have any information and connections which could enhance
this program, we would very much appreciate it if you would share this
with us. Please contact the Partnership Developer’s office at any time.
